Minimalist Poster Series
All the movies represented in the series include the actor Johnny Depp. I chose my three favorite movies with him in it. From there I broke down the importance of the characters within the movie and chose the dominant character. I then played with he typography and chose a font that best represented the movie. The characters heads are not fully shown and minimalistic as I wanted to show the least amount of information but still have them identifiable.
Edward Scissorhands 1990
Johnny Depp plays Edward, a young man who was built by a scientist who has  scissor blades instead of hands. I choose to do Edward as the character on the poster as he is easily identifiable. I then had to decide how to show him in the simplest form. I focused on the scars on his face and his crazy hair. I played with different compositions and typography but stuck to a color way that was used in the movie.
Alice Through the looking glass 2016
Johnny Depp plays the mad hatter in this sequel to Alice in Wonderland. The reason I went with the Queen of Hearts as the character to represent on the poster is because she is easily recognizable. I made sure to give her a big head along with the heart shaped hair that she has to differentiate this queen from the original. I wanted the illustration to be able to speak for the movie without typography being needed. I played with different compositions, colors, and typography.
Pirates of the Caribbean:Dead Man's Chest 2006
Johnny Depp plays Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Therefore I couldn't make him the face of the poster as it would be hard to identify which movie the poster is for without using typography. I chose to illustrate Davy Jones as this is the movie that he makes his first appearance in. once i made the illustration I mostly played with the typography as the composition would just follow the guidelines set by the two other posters.
Black and white vs color
Nearing the end of the poster composition I did not know how minimalist to go with the end result. To have the color or to make it black and white so there is no point of emphasis and just shapes.
